Fall in Boston’s Seaport: Make the Most of the Season
There is something especially nice about fall in Boston’s Seaport. The crowds of summer begin to ease, the waterfront takes on a quieter pace, and cool, sunny days make it the perfect time to spend a few hours outside before winter settles in.
If you’re looking for an excuse to get out and enjoy the neighborhood this fall, Seaport has plenty to fill an afternoon, from waterfront walks and public art to museums, seasonal events and, of course, a meal overlooking the harbor.
Take a Walk Along the Waterfront
Fall is one of the best times of year to explore Boston’s waterfront on foot. The Harborwalk winds through the Seaport, offering views of the harbor, boats, the city skyline and the neighborhood’s changing architecture.
For something a little different, the ICA Boston’s Waterfront Art Walk connects the museum with Commonwealth Pier and highlights contemporary public art along the waterfront. The walk takes about an hour and can be explored on your own, making it an easy addition to a fall afternoon in the neighborhood.
And if you happen to be visiting on a Thursday, the ICA offers free admission from 5 to 9 p.m., making it an especially good option for an afternoon or evening in the Seaport.
See What’s Happening Around the Neighborhood
One of the best things about fall in the Seaport is that there is always something going on.
Commonwealth Pier continues its fall programming with outdoor activities and events along the waterfront, while the neighborhood's event calendar brings together everything from food and entertainment to art and fitness.
October also brings plenty of seasonal energy to the neighborhood, including pumpkin-themed events, fall food and drinks, and Halloween activities. It’s an easy time of year to turn a simple walk around the Seaport into an entire afternoon out.
Enjoy the Patio While You Still Can
Of course, no fall afternoon in the Seaport is complete without taking advantage of those beautiful days when the sun is shining and the temperature is just right.
There is a very small window between summer patio weather and the point when everyone starts reaching for their winter coat, and we’re still enjoying that window.
Stop by 75 on Liberty Wharf for lunch, brunch or dinner and settle in on the waterfront patio while the weather cooperates. With the harbor just outside, it’s a great place to take a break from exploring the neighborhood, meet up with friends, or simply enjoy a meal outside while you still can.
The patio is also dog-friendly, making it an easy stop if your fall plans include a walk along the waterfront with your four-legged companion.
Make a Fall Day of It
Start with a walk along the Harborwalk, spend some time exploring the public art around Commonwealth Pier, stop into the ICA, or simply wander through the neighborhood and see what catches your attention.
Then, when you’re ready for a break, head to the waterfront for a meal, a drink and a little more time outside.
Because before long, those sunny fall afternoons will give way to colder days, and patio season will be a memory until spring.
For now, though, there is still time to enjoy fall in the Seaport, one waterfront meal at a time.
